Branson Vacation Getaways
I don’t know of too many vacation spots that are designed with families in mind, but Branson, Missouri is certainly one of the ones I’d highly recommend. I took my family there last summer and was very impressed by the variety of entertainment options to pick from.
If I’m not mistaken, I believe they have more live shows than Las Vegas and Broadway combined. I believe it, too, because you couldn’t throw a stone there without hitting a theater. They truly have something for everybody: all kinds of live entertainment, shopping, restaurants, even a couple of theme parks.
If you do have the chance to visit Branson, I cannot encourage you enough to visit someone who I think is the funniest guy on earth: Bob Nelson. You may remember him from some HBO specials he did a while back. I never thought I’d have the chance to see him perform in person with my family. He’s knee-slapping, laugh-till-you-cry funny!
Other shows include the likes of Andy Williams and Mickey Gilley. Each perform your favorites in their own theaters right on the main strip that runs through the heart of the city. I wish I could have gone to see Andy during the Christmas season because I think he has done some of his most memorable work singing songs of my favorite season of the year.
For the kids, there’s Silver Dollar City, complete with all kinds of rides, food, and entertainment. They even have their own onsite cave that you can tour. A very beautiful site to see.
Did I mention shopping? For all you die-hard shoppers out there, you may have met your match in Branson as there are miles and miles of shopping space to feast your eyes on. As I mentioned earlier, my favorite season is Christmas, so I was pleased to find one the largest shops devoted to Christmas that I had ever seen. I could have spent hours in that place if I wasn’t so tired from walking all day.
